- What is an integration engine
What is an integration engine?
Most companies have several different systems that manage various types of information. When these systems need to exchange information with each other, the integration engine comes into play.
Specialized systems
Many companies use specific systems that are specialized in different areas, such as finance, customer management, or inventory control. These systems excel in their respective fields but often need to share information for the business to operate smoothly.
The need for integration
Systems are rarely designed to communicate with each other directly, which means that an integration solution is needed. By creating system integrations, one can ensure that data flows freely between different systems, which increases efficiency and reduces the risk of errors.
P2P integrations
A classic way to create integrations between different systems is called P2P (Point-to-Point). This means creating direct connections between specific systems. On paper, these integrations seem efficient, and they can be, at least in the short term. But in reality, integrations are often needed over longer periods.
As more and more P2P integrations are built, they often become more expensive and complex to manage. An analogy could be building several small bridges between islands instead of one central bridge that connects all the islands. Every time a new "island" (a new system) needs to be added, a new bridge must be built. These bridges all look different and must be managed and maintained separately.
An outdated method
Another disadvantage of P2P integrations is that they often lack central management. This can lead to security issues as it is difficult to keep track of all individual connections. Imagine playing soccer with more than one ball on the field at the same time - it would quickly become chaotic and hard to manage. The same goes for many P2P integrations.

EntityFlow integration engine – a centralized core
Imagine an integration solution, such as EntityFlow, that serves as the heart of your company's IT infrastructure, where all systems and applications work in perfect harmony. An integration engine offers just this – a centralized platform that effectively connects all your systems, whether it's CRM, ERP, or other business applications.
Integration engines are designed to handle large amounts of data from the start, eliminating the need for time-consuming customizations as needs grow. Instead, the integration engine can easily scale up to meet increased demands.
The centralization means there is a single source of truth, a standardized way to transfer information, and a central point for monitoring and protection. This facilitates management work over time.
The integration engine also enables the reuse of integrations. Why reinvent the wheel every time? Instead of spending time creating new data flows between systems, you can focus on creating effective integrations that actually add value to business processes.
While P2P solutions may once have been exciting, modern technology shows that integration engines are the smarter and more efficient choice for companies that want to stay ahead. Choose EntityFlow and discover the difference it can make for your business.

Frequently asked questions about system integration
An integration engine is a tool that enables different systems to communicate and exchange data with each other. Think of it as a central hub that gathers information from systems like CRM, ERP, or inventory management and ensures that data flows smoothly between them. At Toxic, we call our solution EntityFlow, an integration engine that streamlines and automates data integrations to save time and reduce the risk of errors.
Most companies use several different systems for finance, customer management, inventory, and logistics. Without an integration engine, these systems must communicate directly with each other via complex P2P solutions. An integration engine like EntityFlow centralizes communication, which:
-
Reduces the risk of errors
-
Streamlines business processes
-
Simplifies management and saves time
-
Provides a scalable solution that grows with the business
EntityFlow acts as the heart of your IT infrastructure, where all systems connect to a central platform instead of having separate connections between each system. This means that data is collected, processed, and sent where it is needed – quickly, securely, and without hassle.
-
Centralized data management: A single point for all system communication.
-
Efficiency: Automated processes save time.
-
Scalability: Easy to add new systems.
-
Security: Better control over data flows and increased security.
-
Cost-effective: Reduces the need for expensive, custom integrations.
Yes! Integration engines like EntityFlow are designed to handle large amounts of data and complex flows without losing performance. Whether it's about real-time data or large batches, the system can manage it smoothly.
Positive. An integration engine increases security by consolidating all data flows in a central location where it is easier to monitor, protect, and control access. It also makes it easier to identify and manage potential security risks.
One of the biggest advantages of EntityFlow is that it is easy to scale up. When you grow or want to connect new systems, we can smoothly add new integrations without affecting the existing processes.
