That's why you are losing customers in your B2B trade - and what you can do about it.

In B2C e-commerce, the purchasing experience often revolves around inspiring and enticing. In B2B, it's the opposite. Customers already know what they want, they have probably ordered it before and want to do it again – as quickly and smoothly as possible. Yet, it is surprisingly common for B2B stores to be built with the same logic as consumer retail. This creates unnecessary friction, frustrates customers, and leads to manual work that no one really has time for. So, what does a truly smooth purchasing experience look like in B2B?

Customers know what they want, so help them find it quickly

A B2B customer ordering spare parts, consumables or raw materials doesn't want to spend time browsing an online store. They want to search, find what they need and add it to their cart.

This makes search functionality one of the most important features of any B2B e-commerce store. It needs to handle article numbers, product names and synonyms, and deliver search results instantly. Just as importantly, customers should be able to add products directly to their cart from the search results without having to visit each individual product page. Simple in theory, but surprisingly often poorly executed in practice.

Many customers order the same products again and again

A large part of B2B commerce consists of repeat purchases. The same products, roughly the same quantities and at regular intervals. Forcing customers to search for everything from scratch every time creates unnecessary friction.

The solution is simple: allow customers to save favourite products, create their own lists of frequently ordered items and reorder directly from their order history. This saves customers time and reduces the risk of them choosing a competitor that makes the process easier.

The right information in the right place

In B2B commerce, product information is often the deciding factor in whether a purchase is made. A customer buying industrial components needs specifications, tolerances and technical documentation, not just a product image and a price.

Make sure every product includes the information customers actually need to make a decision: technical specifications, relevant documents, clearly presented variants and images that accurately show the product. If information is missing, customers will look for it elsewhere and may end up placing their order with another supplier instead.

Making it easy to find the right products, even in large catalogues

Many B2B e-commerce stores offer hundreds or thousands of products. Without a logical structure, the store quickly becomes an obstacle rather than a useful tool.

Clear categories, smart filtering and a consistent structure across the entire product range aren't just nice-to-have features. They're essential requirements. Customers who can't find what they're looking for within a reasonable amount of time won't keep searching for long.

The buying experience is part of your offering

It's easy to think of e-commerce as a technical solution, but for your customers, it's part of their overall experience of doing business with you. A smooth ordering process shows that you understand their day-to-day needs, while a complicated process sends the opposite message. In B2B commerce, where relationships and repeat purchases are essential, a seamless ordering experience plays a significant role.

Sometimes, the challenge isn't about improving individual features. It's that the entire platform has become outdated for the business you're running today. In our blog post The Self-Playing Piano in B2B – Read More About the Nordic Digital Commerce in B2B 2026 Report, we explore how an integrated architecture can address these challenges at a deeper level. The self-playing piano in B2B – Read more about the report Nordic Digital Commerce in B2B 2026

The B2B companies in the Nordics have reached a clear turning point. Litium's tenth edition of Nordic Digital Commerce in B2B 2026 shows that 81 percent of the Nordics' B2B companies today enable sales through digital channels, that digital sales on average account for 31 percent of revenues, and that 58 percent plan to increase their budget for digital commerce in the coming year. The discussion is no longer about whether to digitalize sales – but about how to take the next step.

When do organizations need to rebuild or redesign their website?

Many organizations use their website for many years without major changes. This is rarely a problem in itself – a website does not need to be rebuilt just because it is old. The problem arises when the technology, content, or visitors' needs have changed more than the website has managed to keep up. It is not always easy to see where the line is between "this we can fix" and "this requires us to rebuild from scratch." Here are four signs worth taking seriously.

Common problems on large websites and how they can be solved

The larger a website grows, the harder it becomes to manage – both for those who visit it and those who work on it every day. What was once a clear structure with a few sections becomes, over time, hundreds of pages, countless subcategories, and content that has been added in batches over several years without a common plan. The result is rarely noticeable all at once; instead, it sneaks in until one day the visitor can no longer find what they are looking for, while the editor no longer knows where something should be. Now we will go through some of the most common problems on large websites and what usually tends to solve them.

Why system integration is important in e-commerce

Many companies that sell through e-commerce do not work in a single system, but many work in several at the same time. The business system handles orders, inventory, and finance, the CRM manages customer relationships and the sales process, and the e-commerce platform is what customers actually encounter. If your systems do not communicate with each other, much of the work ends up being about moving information manually between them, and that is rarely where time should be spent.

That is why many organizations choose to switch CMS

A CMS, a content management system, is the tool an organization uses to publish and update content on its website. Most organizations chose their CMS a long time ago (often five, ten, or fifteen years ago) and have since built upon it year after year. Over time, it becomes harder to live with the choice one once made. Licenses become more expensive, editors find it increasingly difficult to work in the system, and what once felt flexible starts to feel like a hindrance. Let’s go through some of the most common reasons organizations choose to switch CMS and what they often want to achieve with the change.

What is required of a good IR website?

Trust is what determines how a publicly traded company is perceived by investors, analysts, and shareholders. Much of that trust is built or lost on the web. An IR website (Investor Relations) is the place where investors, analysts, and shareholders turn when they want to understand how the company is doing and where it is headed. For a publicly traded company, the website is not just a communication channel; it is part of how the company fulfills its information obligation to the market. If an IR website is difficult to navigate or lacks the right information, it costs more trust than one might think. In this blog post, we will therefore go through what an IR website actually needs to contain and what distinguishes a good IR website from one that is just there out of obligation.

Ad copy that converts: what actually makes a difference

Most people who want to improve their ads start off wrong. They rewrite headlines, change images, test new CTAs. And sure, that can have an effect, but that's rarely where the big difference lies. When an ad doesn't convert, it's often because something in the chain after the click isn't working. The ad is just the beginning. This is what actually determines whether an ad converts.
