Umbraco takes home five wins at the CMS Critic Awards 2024!

Five wins at the CMS Critic Awards. What does it say about Umbraco – and about the CMS market in general? We spoke with Daniel Andersson, Tech Lead at Toxic, to get his perspective on why Umbraco continues to dominate and what it means for companies looking for the right platform.

Umbraco's major success — a testament to the platform's strength

CMS Critic Awards is one of the industry's most prestigious accolades, recognising each year the CMS platforms that stand out for innovation, usability and technical quality. Umbraco winning five categories this year — Best Enterprise CMS, Best Free CMS, Best Headless CMS, Best Composable Solution and Best AI Solution in a CMS or DXP — confirms the platform's breadth and its strong position among both developers and editors.

"It's fantastic news and a sign that Umbraco keeps moving in the right direction," says Daniel Andersson. He believes the wins demonstrate how solid the platform is and that it has a bright future ahead. "It feels extra rewarding given how closely we work with Umbraco and how we see them constantly improving the platform."

What does the win mean for companies looking for the right CMS?

Many companies face the challenge of choosing a CMS, and Daniel's analysis is clear — Umbraco's success at the CMS Critic Awards is a signal that the platform is a safe bet. He particularly highlights how Umbraco manages to combine flexibility with stability, making it attractive for both small and large organisations.

"One of Umbraco's greatest strengths is that you never outgrow it. You can start with a simpler site and scale up without having to switch systems," he explains. "That makes Umbraco work equally well for a startup as for a larger company with complex needs."

Daniel also observes that many companies today get stuck with expensive, locked-in CMS solutions that limit their development. With Umbraco, that problem goes away — the platform is open, flexible and easy to integrate with other systems.

What's next? Umbraco and the future

With five wins under its belt, it's clear that Umbraco is a platform to be reckoned with. But what's around the corner? Daniel sees an exciting development ahead as the platform continues to become both more powerful and more user-friendly. He highlights the upcoming release of Umbraco 17 as an important step forward.

"In November, the next major LTS version arrives — Umbraco 17, where the backoffice has been rebuilt from the ground up and Angular has been replaced with modern technology," he says.

Beyond technical updates, he believes the CMS market will change rapidly, with personalisation and AI becoming increasingly important. "I think the editor experience will remain a key focus, both through smart improvements that simplify everyday work and through AI functionality and personalisation. We're already seeing features like automatic translations and AI-generated texts, including alt texts, that help editors in their daily work."

Why Umbraco continues to impress

Umbraco's success isn't just about the technology — it's also about the people behind the platform. Daniel highlights the community as one of its greatest strengths, arguing that it's precisely this user engagement that keeps Umbraco evolving and improving.

"It's thanks to the strong community that Umbraco is constantly shaped around real needs. That makes the platform better every day and is one of the reasons it keeps growing and staying at the forefront," he says.

Beyond the active community, it's Umbraco's flexibility and scalability that make it unique. Whether it's a smaller organisation or a global enterprise, Umbraco can be adapted and extended in line with the needs of the business.

Daniel also highlights Umbraco Cloud as a strong option for making the most of the platform's scalability. By using the cloud solution, companies can smoothly adjust their server capacity based on traffic and demand, making it possible to handle growth without switching systems or compromising on performance.

Ad copy that converts: what actually makes a difference

Most people who want to improve their ads start off wrong. They rewrite headlines, change images, test new CTAs. And sure, that can have an effect, but that's rarely where the big difference lies. When an ad doesn't convert, it's often because something in the chain after the click isn't working. The ad is just the beginning. This is what actually determines whether an ad converts.
