5 Tips for better UX/UI Design

We list 5 tips on what is important to consider when it's time to design a user-friendly and attractive website.
1. Less is more
A design with too many different elements distracts the user’s attention from the important aspects of the design. Adding too many elements can make the design feel cluttered rather than creative. A good rule of thumb is to write down everything that needs to be included in the design and design around that first. In most cases, the design will already feel complete, but if it still feels too minimal, you can add elements that enhance the overall feel of the page.
2. Color system
Make sure to create a color system. When building your color system, you should define clear purposes for each color — for example, a color for CTAs (Call To Actions), a secondary color, a text color, and so on. A well-designed color system does two things: it makes the design feel more consistent, and it creates a sense of familiarity for the user. This means users know what to expect when they see a certain color.
3. Contrast
As the world becomes increasingly digitalized, it is more important than ever that information online is easy to read. As a designer, you can help with this by paying close attention to contrast. Gray-toned designs can look very clean and professional, but unfortunately many people struggle — or are unable — to read text when the contrast between gray and white is too weak.
4. Consistent design
When designing, we must always remember that we are not our users. This means we constantly need to think about how someone visiting the website will experience it. Something that feels obvious to a designer can easily become confusing for a user. That is why consistency in design is so important.
Before you start creating your masterpiece, it can be helpful to open a document and define how different buttons should look in various states, how headings should differ from introductions, and so on. Once you have established these guidelines, you should stick to them. Of course, you can adjust these elements during the design process, but make sure you update all elements within that category — for example, all buttons — rather than changing just a single object.
5. Typography
As mentioned earlier, creating a consistent design before starting website development is essential — and this is especially true for typography. Before you even begin designing the homepage, you should define the typefaces, font weights, and font sizes you will use throughout the design.
During the design process, you will probably need to add more styles, and that is where your typography guide becomes valuable. It helps ensure that every new addition fits seamlessly into the overall design system.
“But how many typefaces should I use?”
A good rule of thumb is to never use more than three. Using more than three typefaces can make the design feel cluttered and inconsistent.
